"Hearing aid (body aid) and iPod"
An interesting story about my family and deafness. I came to visit my hearing family's home after Thanksgiving dinner last Fall. I noticed that my 2 years old nephew listening the iPod. I asked some of my family members about him wearing "hearing aids". It appears to me that My family's reaction stunned or speechless. Makes me wondering ... ummm.

Thanks for posting this story. It reminded me one time when I drank some soda pop, and of the sudden, I had a big burp. My brother in law looked at me, kinda of funny look. I teased him that I wished that he was deaf so he would not hear my burp. He was so offended! I was stunned by his reaction. Whew, that only shows that some people do not accept deafness.
This is very interesting story indeed!
It happened to me once, when I was asked to make small tips or advices for my work's newsletter (I work in a Deaf school). I made up one tip about using captions on TV that it's a good idea to turn it on for the Deaf child in the family so he/she can have equal understanding of TV programs or movies as themselves. I added that if they want to know what it is like to be deaf and not knowing what is happening on TV (without captions), they can try and experience it by turning down the volume of the TV to full mute.
One of the staff who is responsible to type up the letter was very offended and deleted that bit about turning down the volume. I was very surprised at her reaction.
So that's why I made all my films with no sounds, just to "force" hearing people to watch TV or films visually without ANY sounds.
Yes, I noticed that hearing people can be very defensive about those kind of things. I don't know why but yeah, I think it's a very interesting issue to explore.
I think the hearing person's response shows a lack of willingness to adapt to other's needs and a total selfishness. I get it all the time.
