had a hoh hairdresser in portland oregon couple times. it was cool to be able to chat with her. heard another deaf hairdresser too but never got to meet her. i go to same barbershop almost monthly. they are hearing but they know what i want... oh also one time i had a coda but she was little nervous. maybe she was a newbie. i prefer men to cut my hair.
it wont hurt to ask your deaf friends in boston for referral.
There is a deaf hairdresser at Yellow Balloon (children's haircut salon) in Maryland, another one in Washingtonian Square in Gaithersburg Maryland(cannot remember the name of the hair salon -- it is a high class hair salon -- that name escapes me now), and yes one in Frederick Maryland. I don't know if they are all licensed or not.
Tayler, I think that is the same deaf man who cuts my nephew's hair in Long Island. My nephew and sister in law said he is a good hairdresser.
I know a few deaf hairdresser in Tennessee, I would say about least 5 deaf people who has licensed hairdresser, other 2 deaf hairdresser does not have licensed but they will get process to get it soon. A person i knew her (deaf) very professional hairdresser, she done my hair before. She has great job doing my hair and gave me some her business cards so i pass it out to everybody.

Whenever I go to get my haircut, I alway look for a picture of the hair styles in the book in the salon. I showed the picture to hearing hairdresser I wanted her cutting my hair and it worked for me .
I somtimes asked Paul dymoke, Professor Snip cutted my hair . he did really great job !! he drove from va to Pa just for haircut and chatting with me . he is so funny ! He is my good friend since my time at Gally . I would recommand u make an appt with him if u lives in wash .d.c , Md and Va .

There is one liscensed hairdresser in Framingham. she is hearing. she has a deaf daughter who goes to TLC in Framingham, MA. She is a fluent signer. I have been gone there for more than five years and im very satisfied. If you want the name, let me know.
I never had any problems with hearing hair stylists. I usually write my preference in details before sitting on the chair.
Deaf people ought to be familar with hair styling terminology like "crew cut", etc. Or hairstylists ought to be familar with gestures.
All my hair stylists and barbers love me! I am their favorite customer, who usually tip generously and let them work on my hair without any twitchs or fuss.
