Experienced with the Deaf person who has CI

Currently working with the Deaf person who has CI offered to interpret for me and our instructor only if the certified interpreters are not available. He graduated from Gallaudet a year ago or two. He is a nice guy!

Hi there,

Yes you are right. It is appropriate for us to decline someone's (not qualified interpreter(s))offering to interpret. Yes I can understand someone is trying to help that we appreciate but we expect professional interpreters.

Thanks for sharing with us

I understand. I like having a professional interpreter without any misunderstanding or miscommunicating.

Hi, thanks for visiting my site. I am hard of hearing and often when the interpreter is not available, I am asked to help. I remind each parties that I am not a certified interpreter but I will help. If its a legal issue or anything important that requires certified interpreter, I often decline.
