What about just signing EXCUSE-ME and go ahead with ducked head. If they stop you, just grab your paper and pen and deal with it or if you don't have paper/pen, gesture out of the situation unless they happen to know sign language. Worst mistake is showing to ear gesture. However, that is just me. I am dedicated disciple of David Martin's doctrine of REFUSING to point to ear gesture.

Just my 2 cents :).

When walking through two Hearing people in between, hearing culture you dont need to say excuse me. all yo all you need to do is nod your head or smile. that's it really. Simply observe how hearing people go through. Another way to say excuse me, is "pardon me"

Well I stopped while two people were talking in a hallway. Then they noticed me and let me pass by. It is a habit for me! It worked!

Hi Diane!

Funny you mention this:

Today was at a memorial service, and saw my 4 deaf friends, and we were getting ready to go to another door, and 1 of my friends said let's go around. I said why? She said because hearing standing there. I said "And??" she said not nice to interrupt them. I was like hUH? Many times hearing people walk by and bend down, so why can' we go thru them and sign "Excuse me"? But we all rounded up, walking around that hearing person. So maybe we should do that? Walk the other way from where hearing is standing?
